The Field

The Field – Exploring Ideas Beyond Right and Wrong

And so it turns.

I am offering my new project, a monthly Interfaith discussion group, at the beginning of our journey around the seasonal wheel. It will incorporate the archetypal wisdom of Mother Earth as we come together, in circle to listen and speak our truths. When we listen, with guidelines in place, to our differences and what we have in common, we can learn to dig deep into conversations that matter. We can explore and find ways of being with these differences without falling into judgement and so begin to respond rather than react.

Initially I am offering an Evening of Stories, Song and Harp. to introduce myself and my story.
It will also offer a opportunity to ask questions and talk a little more about this project.
Join me on:

  • Wednesday 12th March
  • @ The Magdalene Chapel, Magdalene St, Glastonbury, BA6 3EJ
  • 7-9pm
  • Donations welcome

Then, we will meet every second Wednesday of the month, beginning soon after the Spring Equinox;

I have created The Field – inspired by Rumi’s words – as an Interfaith project that seeks unity in an increasingly divided faith system. I want to explore the Mother Archetype that is missing from our culture. I feel that its absence from the Abrahamic faiths, in particular, has played its part in creating the disconnection that has brought us to the brink of social and climate crisis.

I was born into a Jewish family of atheists and I only became aware of my own disconnection when I discovered how it had become normalised in me as I began my long journey of reconnection. A spiritual awakening in 1998 took me on a healing journey that enabled me to build a relationship with the wisdom of Mother Earth. I was lucky that I was living geographically close to Glastonbury and many of these experiences occurred in and around the town, which included walking the Glastonbury Zodiac.
While I knew of the historical trauma of Jews, the story of those who had come through the Pogroms and the Holocaust, it took 50 years for me to become aware of the repressed trauma passed down to me, in my own body. Slowly, as the somatic journey revealed itself to me, I began to understand more clearly my family story, and the wider collective story, which led to the rejection of faith personally and culturally.

Alongside this, my life as a musician also began to expand. I became a healing practitioner and a meditation and workshop facilitator, using the powerful sound vibrations of the harp in my practice. I began working in Interfaith, occasionally working alongside the Interfaith Adviser for the Bath and Wells Diocese and trained in Restorative Justice as I was drawn to work with restorative processes.
I sense that this journey has given me the awareness and the skills for what I am wanting to do here. My initial project, which I called Keys to the Golden City, (a term taken from the Book of Revelations relating to the Garden of Eden and the heart), was created as a tool for reconnection to ourselves, each other and Mother Earth. As i worked through my personal and cultural shadow, and discovered, through my own inner reconciliation, the divisions that I had been holding within my psyche, I sensed the conflicts within the Abrahamic faiths are an extension of that division.

My wish is gather people, of all faiths and none, into circle, people willing to speak and listen in equal measure, with kindness and without judgement. I am offering monthly sessions, each discussion guided by the seasonal, archetypal wisdom of Mother Nature, to delve into the scriptures and ancient stories. We will begin at the Spring Equinox, with a discussion of the three faiths view of Genesis, and at Beltane we will look at the story of the Garden of Eden. In Gemini, we will discuss the sibling rivalry of Cain and Abel, and so on.
It is my belief that, as well as holding so much of the beauty of our spiritual understanding, these stories have lost the many layers and deep conceptual meaning as our patriarchy developed. I hope that by coming together we will heal the wounds of division.
When we choose to return to love, in circle, we all grow together.
